Won a Coca-Cola Prize ?!

Your e-mail has won half a million pounds? No, it's a scam! Don't be fooled. We've all received these spam messages.

Here's a message pretending to be from the Coca-Cola company. It says that my e-mail address has won £500,000. I know this is a lie, and I can see it's not from Coca-Cola. The first thing is, there's no such thing as a lottery where e-mail addresses are chosen at random.

Another thing is, the message says "Coca-Cola GB" and yet seems to have sender addresses within the government of Brazil. Presumably the servers have been hacked.

Additionally, the phone numbers are +44 70 ... which are typical of faked-up numbers pretending to be the UK when in fact they redirect to anywhere.

There are also mistakes in the message.

Anyway, here's the message (but the phone numbers have been removed to avoid problems in case anyone's silly enough to phone them!)...

The thing that gives this away as a 419 Advance Fee Fraud is the inquisitive personal questions. Why would someone giving away a prize not know these things?!

What typically happens with this sort of thing is that if someone is gullible enough to be fooled by it, the communication gets rather involved and ends up with the person being told to pay advance fees to the operators of the scam for "incidental expenses". Also, the victim's personal details can lead to identity theft

Of course, Coca-Cola did not send the message and these scam messages are nothing to do with Coca-Cola. Coca-Cola do not give away prizes to randomly chosen e-mail addresses, and neither does anyone else! See UK Lottery scam e-mail
